About me

Hi! My name is Joseph Chang :) I’ve served as staff with YWAM’s DTS (Discipleship Training School), walking with young people and I’ve been privileged to see the Lord transform lives as we do life and ministry together. At the heart of everything I do is a simple longing: to love God more and that He would be known and loved among every nation, tribe, and tongue.

My story

I was born in Philadelphia to Korean parents and grew up going to church, but I didn’t truly know Jesus until college. There was a lot of brokenness in my upbringing but looking back, I’m grateful for how God has taken those hard times and used them to shape me. In college the Lord gave me a real hunger for Him. Over time that hunger grew into a clear sense of calling. I’ve come to believe that life really comes down to two things: loving the Lord with everything I am (Great Commandment), and making disciples of all nations (Great Commission). The more I’ve walked with Jesus, the more I’ve felt drawn to the unreached and to young people who need someone to walk with them. For a long time I felt too unworthy and unready to go. But the Lord has been showing me that it’s not my sense of readiness that qualifies me. It’s His grace! I’ve started taking steps in that direction through YWAM, and I’m continuing to prepare so I can serve faithfully for the long haul.

What Drives Me? - The Great Commandment / Great Commission

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39) “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Other Motivations

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." (James 1:27) "The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” (Revelation 22:17)
