Currently serving inCalifornia, United States
We are Johnny and Lisa Bowers, full-time missionaries, pastors, and parents serving through The Father’s House Church in Oroville, California. Our ministry is centered on discipleship, preaching and teaching, pastoral and prayer counseling, addiction recovery, worship, leadership development, mentoring ministry students, community outreach, media, and equipping others for vocational ministry. Locally, we are reaching thousands of people through food distribution, jail & community outreach, recovery ministry, community events, marketplace ministries, and the School of Transformation, our vocational ministry school. The work we help carry in California also generates resources that support Gospel work internationally in the Philippines, Nepal, South Africa, India, and Pakistan. Our heart is to take the words of Jesus seriously and make them visible through the way we live and serve. We believe America is a mission field, and we desire to continue serving here while increasingly traveling to teach, preach, strengthen churches, equip ministries, and help others develop practical ministry models that make disciples and serve their communities. We believe the Gospel should go to all nations, including this one and we want our family to remain available wherever Jesus asks us to go.
Our ministry stories began with two very different YES to Jesus. Lisa’s began 25 years ago when, at 20 years old, she came to The Father’s House Church in Oroville, California, as its first ministry missionary. What began as one season of saying yes became a life shaped by ministry, discipleship, and learning to make the words of Jesus practical. Johnny’s story began 13 years ago after a radical encounter with Jesus transformed his life. He came to the School of Transformation as a student needing discipleship and wanting to learn what it meant to follow Jesus with his whole life. Somewhere in the middle of those two stories, ours became one. Husband and wife. Then missionaries. Then Mom and Dad to Benton and Livie-Jane. Then pastors. For the past 12 years, we have built our family around one conviction: when Jesus says go, serve, disciple, feed, visit, love, and care for the person in front of us, we want our answer to be YES. That has given us the privilege of walking with people through some of the hardest chapters of their lives, addiction and recovery, hopelessness, broken families, discipleship, forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration. These aren't ministry statistics to us. They are people we have prayed with, cried with, taught, counseled, challenged, celebrated, and loved. Jesus is the One who transforms lives, but He has given us the extraordinary privilege of putting our hands to the work while He does it. We want Benton and Livie-Jane to grow up knowing that following Jesus isn't simply something our family believes. It is the life we live. Our story is still being written, and we believe the next chapter will carry what we have spent decades learning and living here in California into more churches, communities, ministries, and nations. Wherever Jesus opens the door, we want our family’s answer to remain: Here we are. Use us.
